School programs

A school visit to CSIRO's Discovery Centre in Canberra is unique and engaging with its modern science laboratories to view, interactive exhibits, hands-on science activities and education programs that encourage students to question, value ideas and seek explanations.

Opening hours

The CSIRO Discovery Centre is open for school visits from 9.00 am – 9.00 pm everyday except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and Good Friday.

Entry fees

Entry fees for the CSIRO Discovery Centre:

  • A$6.00 per student for a day visit
  • A$8.00 per student for evenings, weekends and public holidays.

Teachers and accompanying adults are free of charge.

All programs include a visit to the virtual reality 3D show and hands-on activities in the DiscoverLab.

School programs

There are two school programs to choose from:

The Discovery program:

  • is designed for students in Years 5 - 12
  • takes 90 minutes
  • has a maximum group size of 150 people.

Discovery is a popular exhibition-based education program for upper primary and secondary students.

In this program, students investigate and evaluate current CSIRO science research, see a 3D movie, conduct experiments in the DiscoverLab, hold stick insects and explore the exhibition.

The Hands On/Minds On program:

  • is designed for students in Years K - 6
  • takes 90 minutes
  • has a maximum group size of 90 students.

Hands On/Minds On includes a live creatures talk, 3D movie, DiscoverLab as well as free time to explore the exhibition.
