Our Bushfire Dynamics and Applications Group provides a range of bushfire consultancy services, drawing on the expertise and scientific knowledge of our team.
Wildfire investigation
We are frequently engaged by government and fire management agencies to provide independent evaluations of wildfire events.
Our reports can be used to identify issues related to firefighting procedures and other risk management factors.
Training
A major aim of our bushfire research programme is to transfer new research information to the fire community quickly. Our team is involved in nationally coordinated fire behaviour training in Australia and New Zealand.
A major aim of our bushfire research programme is to transfer new research information to the fire community quickly.
CSIRO fire scientists have assisted in the development of courses and presentation materials and in lecturing on aspects of fire science, fire behaviour and fire danger rating.
CSIRO’s bushfire research provides advanced bushfire behaviour training for all levels of expertise.
From basic understanding of combustion to the highly complex interactions of fuel, topography and atmosphere at the landscape scale, CSIRO’s training material is based on the latest results of research and utilises our unique photographic and video database, collected over nearly 40 years, to illustrate critical aspects.
Training is conducted by experienced researchers who understand the problems of bushfire behaviour as well as the issues faced by fire managers, from questions of tactics and strategy in fire suppression to prescribed fire practices in land management.
