The National Research Flagships Program is one of the largest scientific initiatives ever mounted in Australia. Clusters, which are the main element of the Flagship Collaboration Fund offer opportunities for collaborations in areas of national importance.
Pipelines into the deep
Subsea or underwater pipelines carry oil and gas from drilling platforms to coastal processing centres. The CSIRO Subsea Pipeline Cluster worked closely with industry and universities to improve the safety of subsea exploration, mining and transport in Australian waters.
Future Reef MAP
Ocean acidification can have a detrimental effect on corals and other organisms that build healthy coral reef ecosystems. CSIRO, with Rio Tinto Alcan and the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, are collecting water sample along the Great Barrier Reef to better understand what impact ocean acidification may have on Australia's iconic Great Barrier Reef.
Building a bigger picture of the Bight
A unique Collaborative Research Science Program to improve understanding of the environmental, economic and social value of the Great Australian Bight was today announced by BP Developments Australia (BP), CSIRO and Marine Innovation Southern Australia (MISA).
Mr Damian Thomson’s core expertise lies in studying benthic ecology and the processes influencing the life history of organisms living on or near the sea floor.
