Our laboratories at Black Mountain constitute the largest CSIRO Land and Water site. Most of CSIRO Land and Water’s executive is based here along with much of the Environmental Earth Observation, Environmental Information Systems, Surface Water Hydrology and some Soil and Landscape Science capabilities. Most of our advanced computing capability is housed here.

CSIRO at UrrbraeAdelaide

Our laboratories at Urrbrae specialise in Groundwater and Surface Water Hydrology, Soil and Landscape Science, Contaminant Chemistry and Ecotoxicology and aspects of Water Reuse. Most of our advanced analytical capability is housed in major laboratories that form part of the much larger Waite Campus which is shared with the University of Adelaide and the South Australian Government.

Our laboratories at Floreat are part of the largest CSIRO campus in Western Australia – the Centre for Environment and Life Sciences. The site is home to large parts of our Water Reuse and Environmental Process Engineering capability and the Groundwater Hydrology capability.

Most of our capability in Melbourne is based at Highett, with some at Clayton in Melbourne’s east. The Urban Water Systems Engineering capability has a strong presence. The engineering and analytical laboratories are substantial.

CSIRO's Ecosciences Precinct at Boggo Road, Brisbane. Brisbane

Our Catchment Biogeochemistry and Aquatic Ecology capability have a strong presence in Brisbane along with staff with skills in urban water and water reuse. Our staff and facilities have recently relocated to the new Ecosciences Precinct at Boggo Road where they are co-located with the Queensland Government.

Our laboratory at Lucas Heights within the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) site is home to about half of our Contaminant Chemistry and Ecotoxicology Capability. The site has advanced laboratory facilities that complement those in Adelaide.

The Australian Tropical Sciences and Innovation Precinct in Townsville. Townsville

Our strategic presence in Townsville supports research into a wide range of tropical systems from dry savannahs through to wet tropical agricultural systems, rainforests and the Great Barrier Reef. Staff are located at the Australian Tropical Sciences and Innovation Precinct (ATSIP) which is a new facility at James Cook University.

Our laboratory at Griffith within the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Ltd site is ideally located in the heart of one of Australia’s most vibrant and successful irrigation district to carry out our irrigation research.

Our Catchment Biogeochemistry and Aquatic Ecology Capability provides a major input to the Murray-Darling Freshwater Research Centre (MDFRC) which is located on the La Trobe University Campus.
